I have a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird with 2.0 four cylinder in it, just found the crank sensor on it, to replace it. It is located on the FRONT side of the engine, below exhaust manifold and just above the A/C compressor. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE ELSE!

Front of engine (behind serpentine belt).

The starter for your vehicle is located between the rear firewall of your engine compartment and the intake side of your engine. It rest directly under your intake manifold and is held on by 2 bolts. It is very hard to see, and not too easily removed. It is definitely not for a novice grease monkey to undertake. Good Luck

In 1978 and 1979, the station wagon from the discontinued Astre series was added to the Sunbird line, as seen here in this 1979 Pontiac Sunbird Sport Safari Station Wagon example. They continued to use the same front fascia as the Astre with Sunbird badging. The 2.3 L engine was simultaneously discontinued.

Sounds like it could be a weak starter drive or a weak starter solenoid
