It is common to have a knocking or clunking noise of a 99 Nissan Altima, even after the struts have been replaced. This may be due to worn ball joints. It is best to replace the ball joints, too.
I just replaced my side mirror. After the bolts are removed you need to work it side to side. It has a tight seal. You also have to remove door panel to unplug the wire that works the mirror.
THE REAR STRUTS HAVE NYLON BUSHINGS WHERE THEY MOUNT TO THE FRAME, AFTER A FEW YEARS THE NYLON HOLES WHERE THE BOLT GOES THROUGH GET WORN OUT AND THE STRUTS START SLAPPING UPK AND DOWN WHEN HITTING ROUGH ROADS. MINE WERE DOING THE SAME THING, I REPLACED THE STRUTS AND THAT TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM. struts mine did the same thing Answer I had this problem on my '98, I replaced the struts but that did not take care of the problem, what it ended up being was the rear sway bar mounts had been worn and loosened enough to create this problem.
I would suspect you need new struts. Have you front suspension inspected. It sounds like the sway-bar end links are bad. If they've never been replaced, then thats where i'd start. I just did this to my 94
Yes, 3 of the 4 struts have blown on my 06 Forenza. There have been no after market struts available until recently. KYB now offers replacement struts for the Forenza. $120 to $130 range is what I have been quoted, or you can get them online at WWWdotROCKAUTOdotCOM for around $70 each. Don't buy Suzuki replacement struts. Spend the money and get the KYB struts. I believe they have lifetime warranties.
I had the same problem with my 92 voyager when I bought it. For me it turned out to be the upper spring plates on the front struts. Had them replaced and it's been quiet ever since. NOTE: You might have to do an alignment if this is you situation as well.
Factory ball joints do not have a grease fitting. If yours have been replaced, it is then possible it will have a fitting.
Could be as simple as fouled spark plugs.
A critical maintence item is replacing the cam belt which should have been done at 110,000 miles. If that has not been done then do it immediately. If that belt breaks you will have serious internal engine damage. The water pump & thermostat should be replaced at the same time. If you have not replaced the spark plugs do so now. Inspect the struts, & brakes.
