Too rich and you will get black smoke from exhaust. You can also read the spark plugs. way too rich and the engine will bog down or flood out in extreme situations. If it's running too lean, the rpms will get erratic.

What does a oxygen sensor do in a 2007 Kia?

it sense oxygen come out from your engine to tell the PCM your car is running rich or Lean

What happens to a vehicle if the OH2 censor happens to be cut and how long would the damage take if any?

If you mean the HO2 (Heated Oxygen Sensor), then that works to tell your car's ECM how rich or lean the engine is running. The ECM uses that information to adjust the fuel ratio to keep the engine's emissions to a minimum. If the Oxygen Senor is not functioning, the ECM cannot tell what the engine is doing and goes to a default, rich fuel mixture. An overly rich mixture will decrease you vehicle's fuel economy and cause damage to your catalytic converter.

What oxygen sensor affects gas mileage on F250 ford?

Any and all. The computer uses the input from the O2 sensors to determine whether or not the engine is running too rich or too lean. Have the truck diagnosed by an Autozone parts store for free. Their computer should be able to tell you which senor, if any, is malfunctioning.

Can a oxygen sensor make your car smoke?

Not by itself. On newer cars, the oxygen sensor can tell the computer to richen up or lean out the air fuel mixture. It could cause a little, almost unnoticeable amount of extra smoke if it was calling for an extremely rich mixture. If you have a gasoline engine and there is a lot white smoke coming from the tail pipe then your engine is either running excessively rich or has a coolant leak and is burning water (some white smoke is normal in the winter, because the engine runs richer due to the cold). If the smoke is black then the engine is burning oil.

How do you tell if Alternator is bad?

Get engine running. While the engine is running disconect the POSITIVE termninal from the battery. If the engine dies, the Alterntor is bad.

Why would an oxygen sensor cause a 2001 Ford F150 to die?

The oxygen sensor sends s signal to the computer when the engine is running to rich or lean. If you have it scanned for codes then it will tell you what is happening. The oxygen sensor does not have to be bad to set a code. It could be as simple as a vacuum leak. It is best to see a technician and have him diagnosis it than to replace parts that are good.

Code P0170 what is fuel trim malfunction bank 1?

Most people are replaceing both o2 sensors and getting the computer flashed. The code is set when the computer sees the engine is to rich or lean. The o2s tell the computer that. so it could be an engine problem or the o2s Get it checked by a profesional.

How do you fix a too rich problem on a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier?

Start with a good tune up, new spark plugs and wires may do the trick, next check your fuel pressure, it should be between 41 and 47 psi, if it is too high look for dents in the line, also make sure your fuel filter is new. A clean air filter is a must. Check your PCV valve to be sure it is functioning, also the EGR. Finally you can replace the O2 sensors, they tell the computer whether the engine is running lean or rich and adjust the fuel mix accordingly, if they are bad you will get a poor running automobile.

How do you tell if your map sensor is bad on your 1996 4.3 Chevy v6?

It will be smoking black out of the exhaust / Running RICH. Spark plugs will be fouled out/ Black. Replace them if it is running rich. Plugs will not fix your problem. Replace map sensor.

What would cause a rough idle and heavy black exhaust in a 1991 Tercel?

Your car is either running way too rich or the rings are worn out and your buring oil. If it is just running rich one of your sensors are out or you need a general tune up. If your rings are worn out then your engine needs rebiult. To tell if your rings are bad your cars smokey exhaust will have a blueish tint to the smoke.

How can you make your 94 golf 1.8 burn more lean to run with hho?

It is technically a violation of the Wiki s community guidelines to tell you how to do this. The guidelines prohibit providing illegal and/or harmful information. http://wiki. s.com/help/community_guidelines Running an engine overly lean is a quick way to destroy it. Internal combustion is a balance of compression, timing, and the fuel to oxygen ratio. Any alteration to the designed operation of an engine will have adverse effects. Running an engine with an air:fuel ratio leaner than it was designed for can lead to ignition failures, or worse. Running an engine lean also causes it to run excessively hot. The end results can include bent rods, seized pistons, fouled spark plugs, damaged catalytic converters, and increased pollution, just to name a few potential problems. HHO kits do NOT enable your engine to run lean, at its designed compression ratio. For that matter, none of the HHO devices on the market produce enough HHO to run engines lean even at higher compression ratio. External hydrogen tanks can be used to accomplish this goal, but only on engines designed for hydrogen supplementation.

Fuel burning rich check engine light on?

When the check engine light is on the computer has information that you should know. Connect a code scanner to find out why and most likely it will tell you what is causing the rich burn condition.
