The first clue would be the odor. It should smell clean and not of ammonia. If the texture is wrong and too soft, that will indicate decomposition.
If you eat it and you throw up or it tastes funny - that would be another clue.
Most lobster can start turning bad once the animal dies. Most shellfish have certian bacteria living on or around their shells that once dead the bacteria takes over. This is why most chef prefer to cook live lobster, mussels, clams etc....
If you warn it, ground it, and spank it and it still doesn't listen to you, then you know it's bad.
The very first thing you should notice is the smell - like ammonia. It's hard to miss.
when it has a bad smell to it , like a rotten smell to it.
If it smells really fishy, then don't eat it.

The way to know if cooked ham is bad is by how long it has been in the fridge or freezer. In the fridge, cooked ham can last 7 to 10 days. In the freezer, it will last 6 to 8 months. Cooked ham that is bad will also develop a bad smell and may appear slimy to the touch.
