The first thing is you will find that you have no heat or defroster. The temp Gage will rise, but the radiator will not overhead. You will also get the radiator fan to kick in sensing the block temperature. You can carefully and slowing open the radiator and the water may either be cold or Luke warm, but your temp Gage is on the hot mark. The thermostat seems to be a real weak link and is connected by (3) hoses, if it is closed than no circulation occurs.
Take it out and dunk it in boiling hot water. If it opens it'a working.
It will keep the temperature within pre-set limits if working properly.
All cars need a thermostat for proper operation and longevity.
All cars that are water cooled (i.e. they have a radiator) must have a thermostat.
Take your thermostat out and put everything back together, run your car without a thermostat... If your car no longer overheats, replace your thermostat.
A person can tell if their home heat pump thermostat is working by setting the temperature a few degrees above or below ambient to see if it kicks on. A thermometer can be used to verify the temperature.
There is a thermostat on all cars.
usually, after you start your vehicle, if it doesn't take long for the temp. to rise past the normal position, and your car is full of water. It's probably the thermostat faulty. terry.stone21@yahoo.com.
On most cars the thermostat is on the top hose, but not this one. Find the bottom large hose and trace it up, there you will find three bolts to remove the lower cup that holds the thermostat. Be carfull because the uperhose has water in it, and your working right below it.
An engine scanner will give you exact water temperature and gauging by it you can tell.
NEED to know what you are working on.
if its not working.
