But Montezuma had his doubts about them. a while after they arrived, the Aztecs discovered that the Spanish were as mortal as their other enemies, and fought against them. They captured some Spaniards, and sacrificed or even ate them
In April 1520, Velázquez sent an expedition to capture Cortés. As Cortés left to fight the expedition, an Aztec revolt began in Tenochtitlan. Cortés returned and obliged Montezuma to face the crowd, but the Aztec leader was struck by a stone and died. The Spanish were driven out of the city, incurring heavy losses.

Hernán Cortés (1485-1547) encountered the Aztecs in 1519, and although the Spanish were initially treated as "gods" by the natives, they soon had to militarily defeat them. By August, 1521, after losing hundreds of men and needing reinforcements from Cuba, Cortes completed the conquest of the Aztecs empire and ruled Mexico until 1524.

When Cortes and his followers came the natives treated them like a guest because they never saw white people and thought that they were gods. Later all of Cortes's men surrounded the Aztec's and if they tried to escape they would shoot them. So the Aztec's starved to death because they couldn't go and get food. The people who didn't die,Cortes made as slaves. Cortes's cousin Pizzaro also conquered the Inca's empire.
