Washington once stated, "Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master."

Washington didn't like a strong government, naturally because he lived under the tyranny of England.

Here are a few of his quotes and explanations:

"If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter." This is why we have freedom of speech. If people are not allowed to speak out against a tyrannical government, then the government will deceive us all and control us.

"Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth." We have a right to bear arms because like the Declaration of Independence states, it is the right of the people to overthrow their government and establish a new one when the old one becomes to big and controlling.

"Over grown military establishments are under any form of government inauspicious to liberty, and are to be regarded as particularly hostile to republican liberty." This is similar to Dwight Eisenhower's speech about the Military Industrial Complex.
