Mary Queen of Scots was under house arrest for many years and received numerous letters asking her to authorize plots. She declined until it seemed she would never be freed from the prison that Elizabeth I of England was keeping her in. After this, councilors pushed even harder for her death, something that Elizabeth had been putting off for a significantly long time.

Mary never tried to take the English throne. All she tried to gain was her freedom.

Why did Mary I hate Elizabeth I?

because she, and the catholics of England and Spain believed that Elizabeth was an illegitimate queen. they wanted a catholic queen and because Elizabeth was protestant, the easiest way to have a catholic country was to kill Elizabeth and make Mary queen.

Why did Mary imprison her sister Queen Elizabeth?

Elizabeth was the third in line for the throne after Henry VIII's death. She was a protestant heir to the throne and Mary who was the Catholic monarch before her was afraid that she would attempt to over throw her and place herself on the throne as a Protestant Queen. Mary imprisoned Elizabeth in 1554 because she was thought to have been involved in a Protestant plot against Mary that was lead by Sir Thomas Wyatt. She was released a short time later, I believe it was 8 weeks later, with no charge but was placed under house arrest.

Why did Elizabeth 1 want to execute Mary Queen of Scots?

James VI of Scotland, son of Mary, Queen of Scots, became King James I of England upon the death of Elizabeth I because he was her closest living relative. James was related to Elizabeth through her aunt, Henry VIII's sister, Margaret Tudor. Margaret was James' great-great grandmother and as Elizabeth had no children, he was the next in line for the English throne. With James' succession, began the House of Stuart. Margaret Tudor, Henry VIII's sister, married James IV of Scotland who begat James V, who married Marie de Guise from France, and begat Mary, Queen of Scots, the mother of James VI, who eventually became James I of England. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_I_of_England#Proclaimed_King_of_England

How was elizabeth 1 related to mary queen of scots?

Elizabeth I of England was the daughter of Henry VIII, son of Henry VII. Mary I of Scotland was the grand-daughter of Queen Margaret, the daughter of Henry VII, who was married off to the King of Scotland. So, Elizabeth and Mary were second cousins. This was why Elizabeth was so worried about all the trouble Mary was causing in Scotland, because Mary had a valid claim to the English throne. Mary was also a passionate Catholic, as opposed to the moderately Protestant Elizabeth.
