The Bible presents the crossing of the Red Sea as a miracle, so we should not look for natural explanations that detract from that miracle. Either accept the biblical story as it stands, or look to scholars and scientists for the explanation of that story. Yet, in modern times some have suggested that Moses really crossed the Sea of Reeds, a small, very shallow (less than 1 metre deep) lake system. However, this is only an attempt to find a more plausible body of water, about which debate could be had regarding the ability of a strong wind to temporarily separate the water. The problem with this hypothesis is, if God can perform a miracle of parting the water, why can he only part the waters of a marsh, but not those of a deep gulf?

The explanation of scholars and scientists is simple - it did not happen. Over ninety per cent of scholars agree that the Exodus did not happen, so Moses and the Israelites crossed neither the Red Sea nor the Sea of Reeds.

Moses The Crossing of the Red Sea forms an episode in the biblical narrative of The Exodus. It tells of the escape of the Israelites, led by Moses, from the pursuing Egyptians, as recounted in the Book of Exodus. Moses holds out his staff and God parts the waters of the Yam Suph. The Israelites walk through on the dry ground and cross the sea, followed by the Egyptian army. How important was Moses to the Israelites?

The Israelites had been oppressed by the Egyptians for over 400 years. When God sent 10 plagues over Egypt, pharaoh let the Israelites go.......but not for long. He quickly changed his mind and pursued them. The Israelites were scared and asked, "Were there not enough graves in Egypt that the Lord will let us die in the desert?" Moses replied, "Stand firm and you will see the deliverance of the Lord today." Moses then parted the Red Sea and the Israelites went through on try ground. When Pharaoh's army tried to cross, God closed the waters and Pharaohs whole army drowned. They were able to see the deliverance of the Lord.......thats why it's such a big event. (I had to study Exodus for over 6 months......thats why I knew the answer!!) ~Bible Quizzer~

Who lead the israelites after Joshua?

Initially God ruled over Israel invisibly through Moses and and the 'Older Men', and then using human Judges(Othniel to Samson). (Judges 8:23; 1Samuel 12:12) The Israelites, however, cried out for a king, to be like the nations around them, so God allowed it and chose Saul. (1Samuel 8:5-8, 19)
