The Spanish made money from the New World through agriculture and trading. The conditions of the New World were ideal for growing sugar, a product that was in high demand throughout Europe. To help with the efficiency of the sugar cane production, the Spanish colonists implemented the use of slaves. The were shipped over from Africa by way of the Middle Passage. They would work in the fields, and then the sugar cane and other goods were shipped back to Europe, where Spain would manufacture them and make a large profit.
