Castle building for military reasonscame to an end because of gunpowder and explosives being invented.

When guns, cannons, howitzers, artillery and bombs became powerful enough to destroy any built structure, the castles became pointless from a military perspective.

Castles kept being built every now and then mainly for Propaganda and/or romantic reasons. If you're a country, it can be good to show that you're wealthy enough to afford to build something huge and impressive, even if it isn't that useful any more.

Castles existed over 900 years ago in the Middle Ages; they were used as a form of defence against the opposing kingdoms. Unfortunately it fell apart, there are many reasons why castles died out, one of the main reasons is the Black Death. The Black Death originated in Central Asia and worked its way to the UK, this happened when a few infected rats escaped from a ship into the beautiful town of Sicily, Italy (where Vinny Guadagnino was born, he is a star from the amazing reality T.V show Jersey Shore).

In the United Kingdom a fantastic hierarchical system used to exist by the name of Feudalism. Feudalism if a system of which a king is in charge followed by the Lords and the working class citizens who are called Peasants. The Peasants of the kingdom pay taxes indirectly to the king in return of protection from the knights and the thick walls of the castle. But once the nasty plague worked its way to UK, it wiped out over two-thirds of the population leaving most of the knights protecting the castle dead

As the knights were dead in all of the kingdoms across the UK there was no conflict between the enemies. This left the king helpless because he counts on the taxes paid by the Peasants, but they don't need protection anymore because there is no enemy. The Peasants knew how to work and cook so there was no need to remain in the castle, so they headed out in the open world. there was no need for them to look over their shoulders anymore because the tax collectors were gone, there was no constant threat of war. They were free!

However kings were also capable of working hard as they fought in battles, but they are often babied in their humungous castles, they are constantly provided with more than enough food and water. This meant that they could not survive on their own without the help of Peasants and their lords. Although the system did fall apart in the United Kingdom is still lived in Russia until the early 1900's, this indicates that it was a great system to keep Law & Order within the country as Justice is always served.

In conclusion the Black Death didn't directly finish off castles but it destroyed Feudalism and that particular hierarchical system is based around castles and their breathtaking defence that it has to offer. So it is undoubtedly evident that the Black Death is the biggest reason why castles fell apart.
