Well when the Spaniards came to Mexico, they considered the ingegenous savages, because of their way of living life, believes and dressing, so the Spaniards made them learn their language, dress the way they did, believe in the catholic church and forget their rituals and all the amaizing things they invented already...

So with the years the new generations didn't know their own dialect, or the herbolic medicine, astronomy, etc... they changed from been free smart people to be slaves, with no rights to learn or improve themselves.
