The environment of the New England colonies didn't affect the development of slavery very much at all. What did affect - and retard that development - was that the New England colonies were not based primarily on agriculture, but on manufacturing.

It was not. Slavery was much more important in the southern colonies where they would mobilized on large cotton or tobacco plantations. In New England, there were few slaves and those that did exist were primarily in domestic functions.

The growth of colonial plantations led to the use of enslaved people as workers . Enslaved people were sold by the Spanish . American Indians were dieing and the Spanish were going to get more slaves from the west Africa.

The first slave arrived in 1619 and from that point slaves were used for the workers to build the plantation system and to do the work others didn't want to do. It was a system that worked very well for the white owners of slaves. Anyone who was African American was a slave and was treated as property.
