They were on ships from Africa. These were small ships, and the slaves were treated very harshly.
africans were often sold by nearby tribes. if there was a war and one tribe lost, they would often be sold to American slavers and then taken on a terrible boat ride over on the ocean. another way was to be plain out captured while maybe just walking through the woods. many people who were captured died on the ship. they were chained down, in the dark hole of the ship, in pain, not allowed to got to the bathroom or move. it was cramped and they often lay in their own vomit and waste. :( They were usually either sold in auctions in America or on islands like the Philippines or the carribean. (not completely sure about that part) it was horrible for them!!!
