∙ 9y agoWell, the Roosevelt Corollary stated that the United States would pay off the debts of Latin American countries in order to keep Europe out. Roosevelt feared that European powers would loan money to these countries and thus become involved in the Western Hemisphere (a violation of the Monroe Doctrine). Because of this, this was an extension of the Monroe Doctrine, and became a part of the US foreign policy.
The Roosevelt corollary is important because it added to the Monroe Doctrine in matters of foreign military actions.

∙ 9y agoThe Roosevelt Corollary changed the way the United States conducted foreign policy by stating that the United States would step in to solve differences between Europe and Latin American countries. Before the Corollary, the United States did go to war, but only for purposes for itself. After the Corollary, the United States went to war to help others.

∙ 11y agoThe Roosevelt Corollary is an amplification of the Monroe Doctrine. Where the Monroe Doctrine simply says that any European efforts expand their colonial influence in the Americas would be, thenceforth, considered an act of aggression against the US, requiring military intervention. The Roosevelt Corollary amplifies this by further stating that the US has a right to be proactive in the prevention of such expansion. What this boils down to is that it lays the groundwork for making the US Military into an international police force and expanding US military influence. The Corollary also lays the groundwork for Truman Doctrine, which is directed at Communism, and for the Cold War.
