The colonists in Massachusetts responded to the tea act by disguising themselves as Mohawk Indians and throwing cases of tea into Boston Harbor. This act was called the Boston Tea Party.

In other colonies, tea was returned to England or taken off the ships and allowed to rot on the docks.
