Little is known about the Etruscan people whose language, culture and origins remains shrouded in mystery. These strange people were simply known in ancient times as the people of the sea and mythology has it that they were descendants from the lost city of Atlantis.

The ruled and educated the Romans teaching them how to calculate using the Etruscan system of numeracy which today is known as the Roman numeral system.

The Romans eventually rebelled against the dictatorial Etruscans to form their own way of life and government which was called the Roman Republic.
