It became the reason of one of the most shameful chapters in American history, when approximately 2 million Mexican-Americans were forcibly expatriated between 1929 and 1936, without due process. Never mind that 1.2 million of them were actual American citizens, and their civil, human and constitutional rights were violated. Some families were so desperate, the Mexican government had to implement a repatriation program which would help only 150,000 people to resettle into Mexico.
