Pompey defeated king Mithridates in the East in 66 BC, adding his great Empire to the Roman Empire: the total coastal area of North Africa and present-day Turkey, while Egypt became a Roman protectorate. Ceasar in the West between 60 and 50 BC added Gaul - of which it had only owned the southern coastal area until then - to the Roman empire: present-day France, Belgium and the Netherlands below the Rhine river, plus a large part of today's Switzerland.

∙ 12y agoCaesar expanded the boundaries of Rome by conquering Gaul and adding all its territories to the empire. He also firmed up holdings in Spain to an extent by defeating Gaius Pompey.
