I wouldn't say satellite radio did, to be honest. Though it's becoming a little more popular, it still isn't popular enough to change society. AM & FM radio's still where it's at, currently. And now both will be in competition with HD radio, but HD will go nowhere most likely.

Nowadays, we can see the CNN reporter reporting live as it happens, in real time,

from any war or field of mass starvation anywhere on Earth, we can pick up 150

channels of TV with a little dish on the corner of the house, and we can see how

far the thunderstorms extend behind the ones that are pelting our house right

now. It's difficult to comprehend how we ever lived our life day after day without

these capabilities.

If you live an area with little to no internet access, satellite internet is likely the best, if not the only option. However, many people choose to utilize there wireless carrier, i.e. Verizon or Sprint to access the internet. Unfortunately that can become expensive based on the cost of the data plan.
