After the fall of the Berlin Wall, which separated communist East Germany from Democratically inclined West Germany, in 1989, the Soviet Union dissolved. It officially disintegrated in 1991. After this, Russia fell into an extreme economic depression. During the reign of the Soviet Union, 1 out of every 5 citizens were involved in the Soviet Military, so the U.S.S.R.'s collapse lead to widespread unemployment.

∙ 12y agowell..... Berlin was united again. It became one city. Ofcourse the structures between west and east Berlin were and are still very different e.g. the buildings(houses): In east berlin they are these plain small but tall brick buildings whereas in West Berlin the building are much more pleasant-looking and there are various colors and types of houses and in East Berlin they are all the same type.
Also the streets are different, what i mean is: In east berlin the streets are really damaged and not straight whereas in West Berlin, the streets are flat and and straight, but ofcourse during this quite long period of time the western streets also got worse. The supermarkets have a much larger variety of comestibles not like in the oldern times where east berlin rarely had smthin to eat.
