BETTER HAVE THE ECM CHECKED.ITS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE CARS.ITS LOCATED NEXT TO THE BATTERY ON THE LEFT FRONT FENDER.MINE DID THE SAME THING.THE IGNITION MUDULE IS BUILT INTO THE ECM.

yes it should be the same thing.
It is important to have wiring diagrams on hand. A person can get an ignition coil wiring diagram for a 1987 Dodge Ram 50 in the maintenance manual.
Hook your ingition power wire from the ingition harness to your head light switch (useally Green in color on GM) and it will solve your problem
try releasing the tension on the steering wheel by turning the steering wheel left or right as you turn the ignition key

You can't, you have to replace the ignition switch
It probably is the igniton switch that needs to be adjusted. It is down on the steering column under the dash. Loosten the mounting screws and slide the switch either up or down to where when it engages the starter it is jully turned foreward and you can still get the radio to come on is acc position.
Replace the starter motor
Ignition switch and lock cylinder removal 1988 Dodge Ram 50.Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.Remove the steering column cover to gain access to the ignition switch/lock cylinder.Using wire cutters, remove the cable band.Remove the bolts that hold the ignition switch/lock cylinder to the steering column.Unbolt and remove the key reminder switch and remove the switch lock cylinder from the steering column.
drop your steering column... not exactly sure where it is from there but that is the location of it.
