I have a 98 2500 V10, I am no mechanic but changed the thermostat myself, follow the top rad hose back behind the alternator, you will see the top housing for the thermostat tucked down behind the alt.

you will need to remove the two black brackets so that you can get at the bolts that secure the housing, you should not need to touch any of the sensor connections, if so carefully unplug them, once you undo the housing, the hard part is getting the dam thing out from behind the alternator, maybe it would have been easier if I actually slackened of the alt >>

the thermostat just lifts out make sure you remember to insert the new one the correct way, fat end down, carefully scrape off the old gasket, this is a real pain becareful not to gouge the aluminum head, once removed clean up and apply gasket seal to the head and new gasket, put it in place drop in the new thermo and replace the housing, while scraping the old gasket off put a rag in the main hole to stop any crap from falling in.

then just replace the brackets and tighten up the alt if slackened, in all it took me about three hours taking my time to replace the unit. afterwards I checked for leaks, none, and it is working fine since I done it.

recommend you pick up a Haynes Repair manual, as it will help.

This is a very detailed and helpful instruction you may also note that you need to drain the radiator by the radiator plug / jet on bottom left hand corner facing driver side front tire. The radiator holds about four/five gallons and the plug is not easy to come out because of normal build up at the bottom once loosened or taken out turn on the motor to run most of it out, you can taker the over flow hose of your radiator reservoir to put on the end of the spout. easy to take of and replace back to reservoir. make sure you use some type of extending funnel or hose because it comes out fast and gets messy quick.
