I am getting ready to do the same because it looks like the dealer is the only one that you can get a 1998 heater core from for $315.00. When I have more time to pull it out I am going to take it to the auto parts store where I can get a 1997 heater core for $65.00 and compare them, it may work or maybe I will have to make a few modifications to use it???

You will see 2 heater hoses connected to the firewall. These are the inlet & outlet hoses going to the heater core. Disconnect them and then connect them together with a coupler. This will bypass the heater core.
