A person can get the old wiper blades off the wiper arms of a Chevy Astro Van by pressing the release latch and sliding them out the end. This allows the blades themselves to be changed without removing the whole arm.
You can change the wiper blades by removing the retaining clip to the wiper blade arm. The wiper blade will come off and can be replaced.
pull off the wiper blade with and outward motion with your arm and slam the new set of wiper blades back on
turn the wiper on and cut the ignition power once the arm is in the 12 O'clock position for easier access to the wiper. Disconnect rubber washer fluid hose from wiper. Lift arm off of the windshield, and notice where wiper connects to the arm, there's a small plastic locking lever. Squeeze to release, then remove wiper. may take some wiggling back and forth till it comes off. Once off, you can either replace the wiper refills, or replace the entire wiper blades with new ones. Note: the oem wiper blades have hoses on them which washer fluid flows through. So if you go with aftermarket blades, you will lose your wiper washer feature, and fluid will squirt everywhere unless you cap off the rubber hoses.
To unlock the old wiper blades from the wiper arm you must slide the lock toward the passenger side of the vehicle. After this you raise the whole wiper arm. The old wiper blade then should come right off. Installation is reverse of removal.
There are a number of reasons why the wiper blades my fail to shut off. This mainly a problem with the wiring system or malfunction of the wiper sensors.Ê

You need to pull the complete wiper arm off it's splines and then put it back on the splines in the position that you want the blade.

The wiper motor doesn't turn off until the wiper arm gets to the "park" location. If the wiper motor never detects park, the wipers will stay running.
There is a tab you pull up on located at the top of the blade. When you pull it up the wiper should be able to slide off the wiper arm pin, replace with a universial blade.
The 2002 GMC Sierra Series Pickup has the most common hook arms. There should be a little tab on the wiper blade attachment which is mounted is inside the arm hook. Press the tab and pull the wiper blade assembly out of the arm hook. Rotate the blade if you need additional space for the hook arm to clear the wiper blade attachement. Lift wiper arm off glass. Press little tab where wiper frame is inserted into wiper arm. Pull out of hook. Sometimes you have to rotate and/or flex the blade a little bit in order to make clearance to remove the blade. See video in related links below.
