2006 Honda Civic 1.8liter Power Steering Pump R & R

Take Note: this is very similar to the Ford Windstar, Toyota Sienna rear engine cover removal accept the wiper pivots and linkage stay on the Honda Civic...just lots of weak plastic lock pins so be gentle and any auto parts have the lock pin to replace on rebuild..!! NOTE" Do not over tighten Low / high pressure Bolts on pump"..they do break".. Take your time, have a cup of coffee if frustration occurs"..!!

I apply see through coat of Lithium Grease" On O-Rings Before I Seated Them Into New Power/Steering Pump Unit..

  1. Disconnect Negative battery terminal at battery.
  2. Mark Where Your Wiper Arms Are Sitting On The Windshield.
  3. Remove The Wiper Arm End Cover, They Pop Up and the 17 mm Nut Remove Both. Left And Right wiper arms,
  4. Open Hood all the way up The Hood Rod Secure In The Anchor Lock Hole.
  5. On The Right Side (passenger) inner Fender There Are Plastic facia Décor Pieces running from the front radiator plastic Facia cover to the lower windshield plastic decorative Facia.
  6. Remove the pins on the passenger side Right Side. The window wash filler cap swings to engine and then up separating from the washer bottle neck.
  7. Remove the Plastic Decorative Piece from right fender.
  8. Looking at the plastic decorative Facia on the lower windshield there are pins I remember 3 little holding pins Right, Center, Left side. Remove them. The Center And Right, Left Corners Pieces Are Snap Together".
  9. There are 1 maybe 2 pins on the Plastic Decorative piece outer corners, the wiper arm pivots sit in remove them, Right and Left Side.
  10. Began to work the Lower Windshield Right Side and Center Plastic Facia Covers Apart NOTE: the window washer hose sits in open U and I separated just front of the Right Side lower windshield piece there is a plastic union, Separate there and no more because the washer hose stays with the center plastic cover.
  11. Left side (drivers) I remove the plastic lock pin out of the Decorative Plastic cover Inner fender running from the radiator plastic cover to the lower windshield. and the plastic lock pins on the Wiper pivot nut sits in..
  12. Now look you see 10mm head bolt and 2 12mm head bolts remove them both Left and Right Side.
  13. Now you see 3 10mm head bolts holding the center metal engine cover remove them and then remove the metal cover.
  14. On the Right side over the top engine mount is a Torque Rod remove the 3 bolts from the torque rod
  15. Remove the Ground wire from the upper engine mount and follow ground to holding vibration bracket clip, push on the tounge and pull up..push wire back away from Power Steering pump to engine fire wall.
  16. NOTE: Draw a picture of the Serpentine Belt Routing Diagram...!!!
  17. Using a 19mm closed end wrench push the Serpentine belt tensioner counter clockwise and hold torque waiting for the hydraulic tensioner to open. Will need some Torque pressure then remove serpentine belt off Alternator pulley.
  18. Pull power steering low pressure hose from U fender holding clip and wiggle power steering reservoir tank up off of fender mount plate. You will need to move the low pressure hose to work power steering up 12mm bolt loose.
  19. Jack up front of Honda Civic and remove Right tire.
  20. Remove lower engine mud plate if equipped.
  21. Move belt off power steering pulley.
  22. Use a ¼ inch 10mm socket and loosen the 2 bolts from the high pressure hose where it mounts into pump.
  23. Loosen the lower 12mm power steering pump engine Mounting bolt BUT" do not remove. Directly above the lower bolt on top 12 oclock of the power steering pulley is the 12mm upper bolt. Loosen and remove.
  24. Go back down and remove the lower 12 mm power steering bolt while holding pump.
  25. Lower the pump to access the 2 10mm head bolts in the high pressure line and remove them. Wiggle the high pressure line lose of pump.
  26. Rotate the pump to you can access the Lower pressure line spring clamp and squeeze and move the clamp up away from power steering pump.
  27. Remove the Lower pressure line off pump have bucket ready to catch fluid..
  28. Pump comes out bottom into your belly sitting on butt.
  29. Remove the pulley and the lower pressure line mount 1- ,10mm bolt and wiggle off old pump..
  1. Reverse procedure to install new pump...may want to have 2nd set of hands to help when reinstalling serpentine belt... Take Note" after installing pulley and Low pressure hose inlet tube single 10mm bolt insert the new pump beside engine insert Low Pressure Hose And slide spring clamp secure hose to pump. high pressure hose with new O ring into pump and then 2 - 10 mm bolts i just started them. Now Install Lower 12 mm Bolt into pump engine leave loose. Insert upper bolt over P/steering pully may have to push pump toward alternator to align with engine bolt threads i put a shallow 12mm socket on bolt to help turn bolt. After getting upper bolt started I went back up and tightened bolt with fingers then 3/8 short wratchet.. Hope this helps"..take breaks if needed"..

3 bolt Torque Rod Photo, Remove Torque Rod"

Here is the pump Note O-ring High pressure hose, See low Pressure line snout on pump under B hose and you see 10mm bolt secures snout to pump, the 2nd O-Ring fits on the neck, will see when you wiggle snout loose from pump. Note The upper bolt is tight over pump pully and right side unibody frame. I got started laying on my back using a shallow 12mm socket then went uptop to tighten upper 12mm bolt. Remember install lower 12mm bolt first do not tighten this will provide anchor to pivot pump on during reassembly.
