How do you adjust a convertible top on a 91 Geo Metro The top is very hard to close the last 1 inch gap takes 2 adults to pull forward?

This was really simple on my top, after Wrestling with it every f&*$ing time I had to put it up: Loosen that little strip just about the back window, also raise the bar if it happens to be unhooked (the big bar that goes across). I replaced my top (after someone slashed it) and was having the same difficult time putting it up as the last one. This is just a little band of black fabric with a buckle thing that kind of holds things tighter (for looks mostly) and unhooking it makes things much easier. I leave it off all summer even though the top looks a bit saggy when I put it up.
