If you intend to raise boost to about 1.2 bar (generally recognised as the maximum safe boost) you will need a fuel cut defender.
It could be caused by a bad modulater, plug screen or it needs a overhaul

passenger side of the engine at back of head near intake manifold - remove air intake tube to see.
Mobil 1 10w40 very high performance is the best oil to use unless you have very high mileage in which case use 15w40.
I have a 1995 impreza non-turbo. The fuse box in located on the passenger side wing in the engine bay. At the rear of the fuse box top middle is the locking device. Push the tab on the inside towards the fuse box and lift the cover off
