There is no cable. Just a slave at the motor. No adjustments. Hyd. system
they have a cable clutch, so you will have to find where the cable connects to the motor and transmission and there will be a nut on the end of the clutch cable.....tighten the nut ...but not too much you will have to tighten a little and see if that's enough however normally it is the begining of the end when you have to do that.
The 97 usually has a clutch cable that is self-adjusting. This cable usually gets replaced when a new clutch is installed, as it is difficult to un-adjust it once it adjusts for clutch wear. Some enthusiasts fit their car with the old-style manual adjusting clutch cable, in a belief that is helps clutch feel and prolongs clutch life. The clutch cable itself is between the motor and the battery, a big black thing that hooks into the transmission's front clutch release lever. IF you have a friend push the clutch in and out, you can easily see it operate if you're looking under the hood.
if your problem is a sloppy pedal......... then you probably need to bleed the slave cylinder, not adjust the clutch cable. As you correctly point out, this is a cable, not hydraulic, system. The adjustment is on the top of the transmission, towards the front of the car, between the motor and the battery. IT is usually a big black "cable" leading into a 3" while plastic adjustment mechanism, before the actual cable itself exits and heads to the clutch release arm. In this case, you need 2 wrenches (13mm as I recall) and need to turn the white plastic bits until the clutch cable snugs up a bit.
First follow the cable out from the driverside firewall all the way across the motor and down the passenger front. The cable has a plastic nut that turns by hand. Its a little bigger then a bottle cap.
Its A Half Moon Shaped Plasic Ratchet Behind The Clutch Pedal Of A Motor, It Pulls Your Clutch Cable Allowing You to Change Gears.
To replace the clutch cable on a 1989 Mitsubishi Triton from the foot pedal to the motor you need to secure the vehicle with blocks behind all of the tires. Next, you will need to life up the frame to give you enough room to get under the vehicle safely. Remove the clutch cable from the motor first and follow it up to the foot pedal. Remove the cable from the foot pedal area and then attach the new cable.
Last time I checked there was NO "Clutch Cable" it is a Hydraulic System. Good Luck and Remember.Change Your Mind, Not Your Oil.Use the First In Synthetic Motor Oil's.See My Bio For more information.
your clutch cable located at rear of motor is snapped, bro autopartswarehouse.com has one for $50 bucks, bro easy fix
Measure the clutch free play at the tip of the clutch lever (3/8" - 3/4" max) **Not within limits; may need new cable. Adjust free play with lock nuts at the handle. Turn adjuster up to decrease free play and down to increase free play. There is also a lower adjustment down near the heat sheild for the tailpipe coming across the motor. Turn adjuster up to decrease free play and down to increase free play.
There is two adjustments in the cable. One up by the lever and if needed one on the right side of the motor. You want to take most of the freeplay out of the lever. But not all of it! You should leave a little freeplay in you lever and you should be all set. Good luck!
More than likely you have a hyd. clutch and either the slave cylinder Mounted down at the transmission is bad or the master cylinder up in the motor compartment is bad. if it is cable operated you cable may be bad. there are other things that can happen but check this first.
it does'nt..dodge made the cars with a cable clutch or is the transmission low on fluid? use 5w30 motor oil ........ only use transmission fluid if its automatic
