How do you arrange it so an external hard drive will update itself with new documents created or modified on a laptop?

I use a MIRRA server to backup my files automatically. This is an external device that contains its own Linux operating system and a hard disk. You chose which files are to be backup and each time you save one of these files, it is automagically backed up to the server, along with the previous 6 version. It can be found at Mirra.com. I'm not affiliated with Mirra, but I do use the product.
