By consistently answering questions and contributing to the growth of the category and the wikianswers community.
First concentrate on one category and gain the trust of senior members of the community. Once senior members are satisfied with your contributions, they would offer you the supervisor option for any category that you are an expert in. This way you can become a category super.
Remember: Becoming a super is no joke. It comes with a lot of responsibilities and you will become one among the hundreds of dedicated wikianswers community members who strive to keep the website in top shape.
There can actually be a multiple number of supervisors in one category, I've once seen 4 supervisors in one category! But it depends on how busy the category is, sometimes and usually the category may need more then just 1 supervisor for one category of interest. So there are usually a multiple number of supervisors, supervising a category. But usually less than 5, but hey, the more the merrier!
There is no "best" supervisor. All supervisors are considered the "best" because they contribute more to the site than a regular contributor. Each supervisor is the "best" in their own special way, be it in a single category, or organizing categories of a certain category.
No Ninjambo is the supervisor for WikiAnswer. Sometimes categories have more than one. They have been inactive since November 2011 if you are interested
The only thing a Category Supervisor has that a Floating Supervisor does not is something on their profile that says the category(ies) they supervise, the category supervisor badge, and their username on the category that they supervise. Floating Supervisors and Category Supervisors still have the same super powers and abilities - Category Supervisors just have the fame of supervising a category, albeit it takes more responsibility.
Yes, it is. Supervising a category is entirely volunteer. A supervisor may request to be taken off of that category. A category may also have more than one supervisor.
You can e-mail WikiAnswers @ Answers.com (no spaces) asking to be either a category supervisor or floating supervisor. To be a category supervisor you should be knowledgeable about the category. Becoming a floating supervisor is a good way to start off. You can also post a message on Brave3's message board. He can promote you too. For more information, see the Related Link.
The same way a regular contributor would become a supervisor. The most common way is to become an SPA (Special Project Assistant) and spend time doing tasks to prove if you are worthy of becoming a supervisor. To view more information, view the link below.
Category Supervisor - A Category Supervisor oversees one or more categories of interest. Often, those employed (or hobbyists) in a certain field will choose to supervise their category of expertise.Community Assistant - These members help the community, including Supervisors, to be more efficient with the wiki aspects of Q&A (asking and answering questions, editing and so on). A CA performs the less exciting tasks, which in turn makes the time that others spend on WikiAnswers more enjoyable and productive.(See the Related link below for more information.)
A 'senior' supervisor manages more general categories, whereas 'ordinary' supervisors stick with just one category. For example I, as a 'standard' supervisor - look after just the snakescategory. Snakes is a sub-section of the general 'reptiles' section. The whole of the reptiles section is supervised by Stupid Little Genius.
The first category is the white dwarf these are the stars that our Sun will become. The second category are the more massive stars that will collapse down to neutron stars. The final category is a black hole.
You Must Be Signed InNo, to request a new category, you do not have to be a Supervisor. However, you must be signed in to the site. (See the Related question for more information.)
Supervisors do not work at WikiAnswers as their career, it is a privilege that they have gained, for several reasons. Any contributor can become a Supervisor, this is true, but, it takes somebody with talent, who is intelligent, open-minded, and ready to do more on WikiAnswers, to become a Supervisor. Contributors wishing to become Supervisors can either send an email to WikiAnswers, or let an existing Supervisor/Mentor know, and they may help you to become a Supervisor. Being a Supervisor works the same way as a Contributor, you don't go to an office to work, you don't get paid, you can use WikiAnswers at your leisure, the only difference between a Contributor and a Supervisor, is the power, and the extra abilities Supervisors have. Supervisors are just like contributors who login from their personal PCs and use the website. The website does not provide any specific facilities for supervisors to logon to the site. However, there are extra tools available on the menus. Supervisors participate out of their own interest towards the site. One fast track to becoming a supervisor is The Initiates Program (TIP). Other programs like SPA (Special Project Assistants) will help get you there, but they may take longer. Once you are a supervisor, there are promotion pathways. Everyone starts as a probationary floating supervisor. Once you finish the required mentoring after becoming a supervisor, you will be a regular floating supervisor, unless you pick up one or more categories to supervise and become a category supervisor. Category supervisors gain an additional tool for everywhere, and other tools for the categories they supervise. So you don't lose the ability to be a floating supervisor when you become a category supervisor. There are also advanced category supervisors. You may have the opportunity to become a senior supervisor, but you have to be a category supervisor first. There are also advanced senior supervisors. Then there are 2 other ranks that volunteer supervisors will be unable obtain since they are only for Community Assistants, and they are paid employees. Functionally, they are like Advanced Senior Supervisors, but with more tools. (I may be wrong in all this because I am not a CA.) There are "minor" CAs and "major" CAs. The minor CAs may be people like interns for Answers, accountants, bookkeepers, technicians, etc. The major CAs would be those who have significant authority and are directly involved with site. From what I understand, there are about 8 different ranks, with 6 of those being open for most who are willing to work their way through the ranks.
