You scream at the harness at the top of your lungs until the theft deterrent key bypasses. It will make a beeping noise when it is bypassed.
1965 ElCamino's did not come from the factory with an ECM. If you have the switch out you may be able to cross the connection that is activated by the metal in the key. On those years the theft deterrent is a piece of metal set into the key that completes a connection inside the ignition switch. If you complete that connection permanantly before installing the switch you wont need the original key.

if you are using an aftermarket wiring harness hook up the remote turn on wire on the new radio it should be blue with a white stripe to the harness also has a blue and white stripe and plug it in this wire turns on the factory amplifier if you are not using a harness you will have to locate the internal amplifier wire of the radio and connect that to the remote turn on on the aftermarket radio = answer = the inernal apm power wire is white on the black wire harness ANSWER if you dont want to use the factory amp. just run new speaker wires to each speaker.
With some modifications anything could happen but is better if you get the dash wiring for the 79 firebird.

Many aftermarket companies sell adapters for aftermarket wire harnesses. They have the original factory harness at one end and you cennect that to the harness that came with the radio. Check your local car audio installer.
the easiest way is to go to a local stereo store and buy a wire harness adapter kit. This will connect to the after-market deck wires and then plug into the factory harness plug. If you can't go that way go to www.the 12volt.com and search for the wire colors in their help section.
