rover metro door lockhi,, could you be more helpful,is it the doorlock or solenoid on the remote locking system,,does the key fob work .does the red light come on the dash ?

Under the drivers seat. Open the door an you should see the fusebox cover below the drivers seat at the right hand side.
Remove inner door panel for access
remove door panel and small round plug from door jam to access nuts
it is under the hood right in the corner nearest the drivers door and it takes DOT 4 Brake fluid
This happened to our 1997 Discovery once, and it was the assembly inside the door that had gone bad. If you are a DIY kind of person, you can take the door apart and order the assembly and redo it yourself. A manual on your specific Land Rover will help to complete the project.

You have to remove the door panel to gain access to the nuts and the wire inside the door. The door panel lifts up after the 3 screws are removed.

The fuse box is normally under dash on the drivers side, may have to get down low next to the drivers side door and look up and to the left. There is also a fuse box under hood on drivers side, but that has nothing to do with lights, etc.

take off door panel by removing screws, push in on middle of holders ,lift panel off of door release clips on door lock and door handle rod remove handle.
Remove the inside door panel. Remove the window retaining clips. The window will slide out. Reverse the process to install the new window.
Not sure which avalanche you have but I have the 03 Northface all you have to do to switch drivers is switch that remote you open the doors with.. On my friend's there was a driver one and driver two option on a button on the drivers door.
