How do you change a water pump on a 94 Mercury Topaz?

# Disconnect negative battery cable # Drain the cooling system # If equipped with an air pump it as follows: Loosen thermactor pump adjusting bolt and remove belt.Remove thermactor pump hose clamp located below the thermactor pump # Remove the thermactor pump bracket bolts # Remove thermactor pump and bracket as an assembly # Loosen the water pump idler pulley and remove the belt from the water pump pulley # Disconnect the heater hose at the water pump or the water pump inlet tube.Disconnect the water pump inlet tube if equipped # Clean any old gasket material that may remain on the engine surface

I had to take off all belts,unbolt and move out of the way anything that blocks you [example-alternator,ac] top radiator hose,pull off crankshaft pulley ,now remove timing belt cover its two pieces,upper and lower if memory serves me, pulling off crank shaft pulley lets you remove lower timing belt cover, mark than remove timing belt [it would be a good idea to replace timing belt at this time if needed],you now have full access to water pump,unbolt pull off replace,reassemble everything in reverse order,took me a few hours with no previous knowledge, took me half an hour the second time to replace the timing belt.

On the v8 model the water pump is fairly easy to reach, its just a matter of unbolting the pump and installing the new one. On the v6 model, the radiator will have to be removed to access the pump.
