i would suggest taking it to a garage. the battery is in the way on one side and requires you to completely remove it and the plate it sits on before you can even get close to the back of the headlight. and if that wasn't enough, after removing those two things there are a few hoses in the way that are almost impossible to move out of the way. on the bright side, the other headlight isn't nearly as hard...

If you replace parts as they go bad, and keep up with extensive regular maintenece you can easily put 2-3 hundred thousand miles on it.. i have a 97 MR2 with 423,566.9 miles on it right now..

The main difference is the engine. While both versions use 1.6liter Toyota Engines, the GSI is a DOHC engine, a version of the 4-AGE engine used in the 1st generation MR2 and the top of the line Corollas, and JDM Sprinters of the 80's. known for high revs and being a blast to drive. I had an 87 mr2, got 35MPG and ran like a go cart!! The interesting thing is that this is the highest HP version of the 4-AGE that was ever released in America, at 130hp, MR2/Corolla versions were 116hp, (japanese 20valve version makes like 170ish?), and it is not in a toyota, it is in a GEO who would think? The Corolla and MR2 stopped using this engine in 89, but the GEO kept it going another 3 years. Cool car, I hear it is quick, especially with the 5spd, and I have been lokoing for one, but they are rare.
Check your: Distributor cap and rotor (Mr2 turbo's are well known for their ability to eat distributor caps alive) Spark plugs (look for signs of detonation, burning oil, running rich/lean) If you have detonation, turn down the boost or check your timing. If you are burning oil, check your piston rings. If you are running rich/lean, take off any aftermarket blow-off valve, and replace it with the stock by-pass valve. Also, check your MAF. MAF Sensor.
i did this today.. there are 2 screws ontop of the fog light, undo those and the whole light asembly comees out and you undo the back cover to get to the globe. that's it. i just cant find a replacement globe that looks the same.
Put a flat head screwdriver behind the indicator cluster and prize it out. Then just twist out the bulb.
Well I suppose if I had an MR2 then I would carefully remove all the trim pieces around it then remove the screws retaining it to the backing and gently pull it out . But as always it is not mine ,so if you want to also know the easiest way to do it ,Have somebody else fix it. Alas that might not be the least expensive way though.

Hi there, I had the same problem trying to replace a bulb but struggled. You need a screwdriver to place between the yellow inddicator & bonnet. The yellow indicator should just snap out of position, then you'll see the screws.
