The first and cheapest thing that comes to mind: is the shift cable still intact? There is a cable between the gear selector in the cab and the gear lever on the transmission. Crawl under the car, put someone inside to work the gears when you tell them to, find the gear lever, and have your friend move the gear selector. If the gear lever on the transmission does not move, the cable is broken.
i need photo of how to repair cable
ck transmission gear selector on transmission. follow cable from shifter to (usually) top of trans. it is electronic
IDK who would know that only nerds not popular people like me!
It uses two cables because one cable is used to pull the gear selector toward Low and the other cable is to pull the gear selector toward Park. If one is bad, you should always replace both. It's expensive because they are somewhat annoying and time consuming to get to, and each cable costs typically over $40. You really shouldn't expect to get out of a shop for under $200 labor, so it's about right.
The 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix gear selector wire can be found beneath the center console. The gear selector wire will go to the instrument panel.
Unless you can find the shift linkage and gear selector collar out of a used Falcon, I would go with a nice floor shifter.
It has a "transmission range sensor" which also functions as a neutral safety swich; it is located on transmission where the gear selector cable attaches (cable attaches to range sensor).
you need to buy a new one. it must be the correct legnth with no play or you will have transmission out of sync with gear indicator or worse pop out of park by itself.sorry i just reread question.not sure if you are asking about actual shifter cable or gear indicator on dash or console
