How do you change igintion switch in 74 Volkswagen beetle?
These ignition switches have a spring retainer It is approximately 1 inch back from the face of the lock. It should be in align with either the top of the key slot or the bottom of the key slot. You will have to drill a small hole through the aluminum casting around the lock cylinder I recommend about 1/8th inch. Once you have located the spring it will be black, push it down the key switch will pull straight out. If you have a new switch you can compare for distance, and location. Hope this helps.
What is the problem if the brake lights and cruise control quit working on a 1998 Volkswagen Beetle?
What would make a 1974 Volkswagen super beetle not start it has a new battery and when you try to start it the panel lights come on but it want turn over any ideas?
Don't bother. The brake light switch on 1999 beetles (maybe all of them, actually) have been recalled. Unless you get it changed, the brake lights will keep going out. Call your local dealer and they should change it for free, mine did about 8 months ago. Still, this doesn't seem to fix the problem as my brake light is out. It may only be a burned out bulb though.
Had the same problem with mine. The dealership told me it was the backup light switch. I had the same problem, as do 99% of VW beetle owners. There was a recall on the Brake Light Switch. Call your dealer and they should change it for free. I did. It worked for a bit, but now i think one of my brake lights is out again.
99 Volkswagen passat passenger power windows dont work Driver side works great. Replaced driver switch but no change.?
Volkswagen beetle won't start. Ran fine now dead. The lights on dash come on but no engine or starter firing. What happened?
There are two things you have to know about Super Beetle horns: they're under the front left fender, and Volkswagen doesn't switch the power. They switch the GROUND!!! Why, I have no idea. Anyway, to wire a new horn you need to first mount the new horn. Once it's on, get about ten feet of lamp cord, and thread it through the firewall. Hook one wire to your fusebox. Hook the other to the horn…
The ignition switch is located on top of the steering column when you remove the two nuts, one per side, and drop it down. The tilt column has this, but the fixed column (non-tilted) igintion lock has a harness coming out of the switch and runs through the column, then plugs into the harness under the dash. That's how I can tell the difference between the two.
Where can I find in detail instructions on replacing the mirror control switch on a Volkswagen Beetle 2000?
hi, I just performed the same task a few weeks ago on my 99 Beetle. High-five for deciding to do it yourself! if we Beetle owners took our cars to a mechanic everytime something broke we'd be living in a homeless shelter! This is the link that i printed out when changing my mirror switch. Unfortunately, half way through we realized that it was for a VW Golf rather than a beetle. Fortunately, though, the…
