Pain In The Butt!!! I am going through the process right now... I happen to have a coin op Maytag Washer & Maytag Dryer in a rental unit... I am fortunate that I have the key and can unlock and remove the coin box... To remove the lock mechanism is fairly simple there is a large threaded nut on the inside of the box which must be loosened and unthreaded to remove it. Then unlock the lock and remove the whole lock and shaft mechanism. Grab an Allen wrench and loosen the set screw holding the shaft to the lock, remove the shaft, slip the shaft onto your new lock, tighten the set screw and replace the mechanism into the money box. The most difficult part is getting the new lock! ESD won't sell them to anyone but their distributors, and the distributors all want me to fill out a account and credit application just to order two locks! I am not even relaying how much trouble it was just to get to ESD... I checked with every local locksmith, they wouldn't touch it, they all said they didn't want to spend their time looking through manuals and Surfing the internet to find the things. The question should be How do you purchase a replacement lock for an ESD money box without losing your cool?

The ancients did not have safes as we know them. They kept their money and valuables in a secure wooden box with a good lock. In an ancient Roman house such as found in Pompeii, the strongbox would be kept in the head of the household's office as it was there that the money for expenses was given out.The ancients did not have safes as we know them. I don't know the answer but any glove box lock is a joke. I would just replace it but never lock it.
