I had a hard time getting mine out too. Replaced mine about a year ago. Seeing I was replacing it anyway, I just stuck a thick wrench between the alternator mounts and the alternator and pryed it out. The one I got to replace it was hard to get in, but it turns out the bracket part that slides over the mounts in the car was ever so slightly bent closed. I got another alternator and it slid in properly. I suspect if it's an original alternator it's probably slightly rusted or corroded and making it stick. Before trying to get the new one in, you might wanna sand down the bolt areas and add a little bit of wd-40 to easy installation.
