i think you have to cut those out. i believe they are riveted in place from the factory.
I just replaced the left front balljoint on a 2000 echo. The balljoint had to be purchased attached to a frame assemble. Dealer part $300. Bargin Parts place $90.00 . Jack up the front of the car, support with jack stands, remove wheel . Remove two large bolts (one vertical, and one horizontal ) that hold the frame assemble to the frame. Remove small nut in the middle of the frame assemble that is attached the the stabilizer bar (or sway bar ). Remove the nut from the balljoint .Tap or pry the balljoint down out of the back of the brake assemble. With the balljoint now hanging down use a small pry bar to remove the entire frame assemble. When installing the new part finger tighten the VERTICAL Bolt first , then the HORIZONTAL Bolt then the stabilizer and last the Balljoint nut. Then go back and tighten everything up. DoNot forget the cotter pin in the Balljoint nut. Be careful not to bump the axle as it can fall out of the tranny, be careful not to damage the boots .
I have a 2001 Chevy silverado with the 5.3 and im almost positive i have 3.42 gears
The upper ball joints come with a new control arm , as far as I know you can't just change the balljoint ( if that's what you are asking ? )

Remove the transmission plug on the bottom of the transmission. The transmission fluid will drain out of the unplugged whole.
It takes 3 things for the engine to run. Fuel, spark, & air. You have air, and the truck turns over so you are missing either spark or fuel. You have to find out which of those you are missing.
its in the bottom hose becuse i have an 01 sebring with the same motor as your car its the 6g72 v6 i had to change mine out
You must take the alternator out from the bottom of the car by first unbolting the compressor. You don't have to unhook the hoses, just unbolt it so you can get the alternator out from the bottom and have a little wiggle room.
