Be sure to get the special fuel filter removal tool before you disconnect the terminals and I found it easier to drive the van, (99 E-350) up onto ramps to allow space underneath for you on a creeper or blanket. Safety glasses will keep dirt out of your eyes and any gas that my dribble out as you remove it..
No need to bleed lines, since the system is under pressure.
There is a "banjo" nut on the top of the filter housing, place a rag over it and loosen it gradually to bleed off the pressure.
Well, if you know how to bleed your breaks, then its probably a similar process, like leaking your breaks, or were you put in gasoline...

no that is not necesary you only put a piece of rubber to prove it works before you put the filter. If this work then you put the filter
how to bleed fuel filter on land rover discovery 3
1) Remove battery connections- this will loose radio presets & any security codes in the radio so make notes first 2) find the shrader valve on the fuel rail to bleed off the fuel pressure. It usually will be toward the front of the engine & mine has a black plastic cover. Remove & it looks like the air valve in a tire stem. Have something to catch the gasoline (yes do be careful since gasoline is a bit volatile!). 3) once the pressure is out of the fuel lines, the filter is located just in front & above the rear axle on the driver's side. Undo the hose clamps & carefully work the rubber hoses loose. Be ready to catch more gasoline that leaks out of the lines & filter- if it squirts out, there is still pressure in the fuel line & you do not do steps 1 or 2 correctly. 4) Install replacement filter paying carefull attention to the direction of flow (toward the engine). Tighten the hose clamps securely. 5) reconnect battery connections 6) CHECK FOR LEAKS!
Under car on passenger side frame rail, be careful this is a high pressure system and needs to be bleed before working on it.
Fuel filter is mounted just in front of the passenger rear tire on the frame. bleed off fuel pressure before disconnecting and have safety glass rags and a catch pan when changing it.

You should never had to "bleed" a fuel filter. Any air in the fuel line should come out as the fuel pump pushes fuel through the line and filter to the carburetor. There will always be some air or open space in the filter.
