First, you have to pull the wire plug from the knock sensor. Then it simply screws in and out using a wrench. (There is only one bolt holding it on.)
The problem is the location. It's located below the intake manifold up above the oil filter as high as you can reach.
To get at it from the top you have to take the intake manifold off.
To get at it from the bottom. Remove the oil filter (for ease of movement) then use an open-end wrench with a long handle to take off the bolt and unplug it. Installation is the opposite of removal.
where is the knock located on 2001 nissan altima 2.4

Motor
Knock sensorThe knock sensor for a 1996 Nissan Altima is located on the backside of the block above the oil filter. But before you go and change it out, run a tank of the best/hightest rated gas you can find and see if that fixes the problem. On my 1995 the Knock sensor is located under the plenum and intake manifold on top of the middle of the block.
If just the knock sensor need to be replaced. I would say no more than $150.00
it is right below on the intake, on the blocks backside.
under the intake manifold close to the oil filter
The knock sensor advances the timing to optimize fuel efficiency. When it goes out, your gas mileage goes down.
On the back of the engine underneath the intake. The easiest way to get to it is to remove the starter. Loosen the pipe that they put in front of it. Then you can change it. Its not easy.
It is located on the back of the engine block just above the oil filter
It is located unter the intake manifold near the oil filter.
