A second black plastic cover around the shift lever containing the letters must be released very carefuly by using the flat tip screw driver to separate the 4 plastic catches one at a time. Once released, pull the cover up and turn it 90 degrees counter clockwise, this will expose a thin film strip covering the light socket. Lay the black cover on the base of the shift lever.
Remember how the thin plastic strip is attached to the white frame and lift it to expose the light bulb socket. The light bulb looks similar to Christmas decorating light bulbs. Place a drop of super glue on the "Q" tip, and place it on top of the bulb to be pulled and hold it against it until the glue is dry and pull the bulb out of its socket. (If you use a set of thin pliers, it may brake the bulb inside the socket.
Ensure that the light switch is turned off and also make sure that both wire filaments on the base of the replacement bulb will line up with the socket contacts. Place it so it slides into the socket and with the pencil eraser, push the light bulb firmly into the socket. Test it by turning the light switch on and then reverse the process to re-assemble your shift lever assembly.

How to change light blub in console on a Ford F150.
The shifter light on the center console of a 1999 Honda Civic can be reached by removing the center console assembly. Loosen all of the proper screws and pull off the assembly. Once the bulb is visible replace the unit using an appropriate sized bulb.
Toyota Camry 1999 model - replacement of interior console light
There is a small light under it. Remove the console and change the bulb. If the console doeswn't come off easily, there is still a hidden screw somewhere. Hint: there are screws under the console cup holders.
See "Related Questions" below for instructions on removing it - I seem to recall once you get to about step 2, the lightbulb should be accessible.
To change the map light in a 2005 Town and Country, first lower the sunglass holder. Remove the single screw holding the console and firmly pull down the entire console from the rear. It will release the two clips allowing the entire console to be removed and the map light can be changed.

There is one illumination bulb to light up the gear shift indicator. Remove the center rear console, then the console around the shift lever, and you will see the wires on the left side that go to the bulb. Twist the small socket and it will come out, then just put in a new bulb.
If the light for the gear shift on the console does not work on a 2002 Toyota Camry, it is probably a burned out bulb. The console will need to come off to access the bulb to change it. This part is held onto the console area by screws.
It means you left the second gear start switch on.You change the position of the switch to change between normal (light is off) and second gear start (light is on). Turn the switch off, and the light will go off.If you didn't know there was a switch, look for it. I have seen it on the lower left side if the dash (sometimes it just says SGS or 2GS), the center console, as a push-on-push-off button on the shift lever, and as a slide switch on the column shift handle. On a few European cars, moving the shift lever into specified gear positions in sequence while the car is stopped turns second gear start on or off.
