In general, low oil pressure isn't an indication of a failed oil pump, it's usually worn main and/or rod bearings... If you have low oil pressure and aren't sure if it's the oil pump or the bearings, try changing the oil to a thicker viscosity. If you've been using 5 w 15 oil, change to a 10 w 30 or even a 15 w 40. See if the oil pressure comes up a little. If it DOES, the problem isn't the oil pump, it's the bearings. A thicker oil can buy some more miles out of a worn engine. BTW, low oil pressure is usually the result of inadequate maintenance so always keep the oil changed at proper intervals. BUT... If you REALLY insist on changint the oil pump, drop the oil pan. You may need to raise the engine and/or remove any cross-members that keep you from removing the pan. If you still can't remove the pan you may need to pull the engine. Once the oil pan is removed, you should be able to see the oil dip tube/screen assembly. at the top end of the dip tube, you'll see the oil pump. It usually comes off using 2 or 3 bolts and is sealed with either a gasket or an 'O' ring. Make sure you have a perfect seal on the dip tube otherwise the pump will suck air and you won't be able to build ANY oil pressure.
