They are very typical of disk brakes - remove the wheel, pull the retainer pins on the caliper, pull the caliper off the rotor, and remove and replace the pads. Reverse to reassemble. Most folks turn or replace the rotors, although this isn't necessary if the rotor is not warped and is nice and smooth. I'd verify the rotor thickness to make sure it is within spec. Why are you not concerned with the front brakes? They wear out twice as fast.

LOL.. This has got to be the dumbest question I have ever seen. But I will answer it anway way. All you need to do is romove the tire.... I am sure you are aware of how to do that. Then just pull the drum off. If it seems to be stuck jus get a hamer and bang it off. [The above answer is correct, although I challenge it as being a dumb question. Just finished my 2003 Montana. After you remove the tire, if the rear brakes have not been changed before, there are two "star" clips that are used to hold the drum in place during its ride down the assembly line. These need to be removed and you don't really need to put them back on. I used a screwdriver to pry up the tangs until it was loose and I could remove them. If your brakes are badly worn, you may need to back off the shoes. There is an oval rubber insert in the back of brake plate (need to put you head in the wheel well to see it. Pry it out with a screwdriver. There is a star wheel inside that you turn with either a screwdriver or special tool to back off the brakes a bit so they don't catch on the drum when you go to pull it off. Ideally, LOL above says "pull the drum off." Mine didn't come off - easier said than done! It looked like the hub and drum were one-piece and weren't moving. I pryed on the back of the brakes - DON'T DO THIS. There is a sheet metal dust shield that I bent. I went to the internet and found this link. I was worried about breaking something by hitting the drum, knocking it out-of-round, so I started slow. This is what worked for me. Get some penetrating or other thin oil and spray it around where the hub and the drum meet. Give it some time to penetrate. (Nothing happened.) Hit it with a small hammer - nothing. Hit it with a bigger hammer - still nothing. Go get the sledge - still nothing. Grab the propane torch and start heating it evenly around the drum, between the lugs and the hub. Add some more penetrating oil. Start knocking it back and forth, up and down, round and round with the sledge. Notice when it starts to move. Once it is broken free, then you can grab it and just pull it off (wear gloves if it is hot from the torch. It is easy after it is all done! Good luck.]

Very similar to the fronts. When the pads are removed the caliper needs to be wound back into the piston. The end of the piston has indented areas where you can use pliers or similar (held open) and then twist clockwise.

When placing the ned pads back on there is a key or little notch that must fit into the indent on the piston. It is very easy to miss, but if you do the pad will not sit flush against the piston.

I believe that caliper uses15 mm bolts to hold it. Remove caliper, squeeze piston back and push out old pads, clip new pads in, re-fit opposite way.

Lift the car, remove the tire, remove the brake shoe/calipers and remove the old brake pads. Put in the new brake pads, replace the brake shoe/calipers, replace the tire and lower the car.
