Then you may want to jack up the van, make sure the backtires are blocked. I would recommend using stands under the front supports. Now look on the side of the engine. You will see your flywheel. That's the part on the backside of the engine. Some models require you to take off the inspection plate first in order to unbolt the starter. Go out and look up astro starter in a parts catalog so you get a picture in your mind what it suppose to look like. Sounds stupid, but better then sitting underneath wondering. Now about the inspection plate covering the flywheel. This is a little 9 bolt half moon shape item. To the right should be the starter. Now disconnect the large wire first.-YOU DID Disconnect the battery Right!. There should be a smaller one too. Remember where the smaller one goes to. After that a 9/16 socket should take off two long bolts. If the bolts are different leangths keep that in mind. Putting it back on is reverse order.
Now you might depending on how much room you got want to have a little box or stand to put the starter on when your trying to mount it back on. I am a little guy so it got heavy after awhile. Also be carefull of the little nut on the starter and do remember which post it went on. alternators, starters, door handles, resistor pack , wp, vac lines, have replaced them all on mine. good luck and be carefull underneath there.
