tricky transmission fluid checkI had the same problem with my '01 cavalier I had to replace a driveaxle on it and when I went to check the fluid I realized there was no dipstick so i did some research and here is how Chevy suggests you check the fluid. First start the car and allow it to idle for 10 mins or until it is at normal operating temperature. then starting in park go through all the gears and see if if shifts smooth. if it feels ok then it should be good but if you have reason to believe that the fluid is low then it is suggested that an experienced mechanic check your fluid. the process is a bit dangerous but here it is first of all the car must be level to give and accurate reading but it must be raised so you can access the drain plug check hole on the transmission. the car must be running and at normal operating temp. the check plug is located in the front right corner of the drain pan near the engine oil drain plug. the fluid should be just at the bottom of the peep hole if it overflows alot then it is too full and if it does not come out at all you need to add a small amount of fluid. hope this helps

Post to post, that doesnt sound right at all. Most likely you will see two bolts on top of one another. Most likely Allen keyed bolts. The bottom bolt is the drain, and the top one is the fill. You drain the fluid by taking out the bottom bolt, and then replacing the bottom bolt, u then remove the upper bolt and fill it there. You are going to need a way to get the fluid in there, shops us a pump, so that's the best way. You fill it up until it starts coming out, basically the fluid level should be level with the top hole. And of course, the car should be level when doing all of this.

The Transmission Fluid Check bolt is in the front right part of the Transmission Pan. This is in regards to a 1998 Chevy Cavalier (since I have one myself) and may not be correct for any other year. This bolt is just to check the fluid level is correct and will not drain the entire Transmission fluid reservoir, you must remove the pan to remove the transmission fluid.

How do you check the transmission fluid on 2004 Chevy cavalier?

AnswerNormally on GM vehicles you check the fluid with the transmission fluid warm, parked on a level surface, engine running, transmission in park. According to the manufacturer, there are also some GM vehicles that have a sealed for life transmission. On these you cannot check the level. Your owners manual will spell all this out for you. If it does have a dipstick, look on the stick for directions. All transmissions require maintenance. On a Cavalier that is supposed to be sealed for life, you can still check and add transmission fluid.2003 to 2005 Cavalier transmission fluid level/filling.With the vehicle running, you remove a bolt located on the transmission. It is on the passenger side, where the CV joint connects to the transmission. It is also about 3 inches above the transmission oil pan. You can't miss it, looks like it has no reason to be there. You add Transmission fluid until it starts dripping from the hole missing the bolt. Place the bolt back into place. Your transmission is now filled to level.Don't forget, DO NOT ADD CHEAP transmission fluid to this vehicle. It is very delicate and cheap fluid will make the transmission slip. Add ONLY Dexron-Mercon or higher quality transmission fluid.
