Remove the engine speed sensor which is located directly behind the engine on the clutch bellhousing side of the transaxle case below and to the left of the brake master cyinder. It sticks straight up and has a bolt on the side holding it down. Remove the electric connector attached to it and if there is a speedometer cable remove that also. Unscrew the retaining bolt at the base of the sensor and wiggle it out. The fluild level should reach the top of the gear on the sensor when inserted. This is also where you add fluid to the transaxle/transmission(use a funnel with a long stem). Note although this is a manual transmission it requires MERCON ATF(automatic transmission) fluid or equivalent. Do not use gear oil!!!
I dont think manual transmission cars use transmission fluid.
If it is an automatic transmission, then it should have a dipstick to check the fluid level. Depending on the make and model, the location of this dipstick will vary. If it is a manual transmission, then the fluid level really can't be checked and it will not have a dipstick.
On a 2000 Ford Ranger : On a manual transmission , underneath the vehicle , on the transmission will be a fill plug . With the vehicle level the fill plug is cleaned and removed to check the fluid level ( the fluid level should be at the bottom of the fill plug hole )
If it is a manual transmission it has no dip stick just a fluid level plug
Should be a plug on the side of the transmission - fill to this level
fill to the plug hole on side of transmission
Should be a removable plug on the side of the transmission Fluid should be at this level
Should be a plug at the side of the transmission- fill to this level
It's best to check the fluid level with the engine at operating temperature and the transmission in park, although some vehicles require the transmission to be in neutral, consult your service manual.
The manual transmission don't have a dip stick. It has a plug in the side of it that you remove and check the fluid level.
You can check the transmission fluid level in your 1998 Chevrolet Corvette with the transmission fluid dipstick. The transmission fluid dipstick will have indicating marks as to the level of the transmission fluid.
I believe the fill plug is on the driver's side of the 5 speed manual transmission - on a level surface , clean the fill plug before removing and check to see if fluid level is level with the bottom of the opening . If it is not add the recommended transmission fluid until it is.
