First, have a good 3-5 ton, roll-around jack, with at least a three foot handle, to jack-up the FRONT end of your vehicle. Second, you'll need a CLEAN, 5 gallon pail. Third, you will need a pair of "slip pliers". Time = 90 minutes.

Cost$:

Pail = $5

Jack = $40 [Harbor City Freight)

Slip Pliers = $6

Metal, wratching, 3=ton Jack Stands ($29)

Place your vehicle on a flat surface; a surface that your can roll-around your floor jack on. Next, find the front-end "skid plate", match it up with the round end of the jack stand. SET YOUR PARKING BRAKE!

Next, jack-up your Explorer to where you have at least 25-34" of clearance, to

slide-under the passengers side of the vehicle, just below where the seam between your front passenger door is located. Now, ratchet-up your jack stands, making sure that both are position BEHIND the font tires, and will contact the "frame rail" of your vehicle. Slowly let down the jack stand arm, until your hear/feel the body rails come in contact with BOTH jack heads. Place a small (12") piece of 2'x4' lumber BEHIND the passenger-side, rear wheel. Have a cell phone? Keep it ON and easy to get to, This is in case one of the jack-stands "gives" and you find yourself trapped underneath your SUV!

Next, just barely slide underneath the aforementioned side of your vehicle. You may need a small, cheap flashlight, to look along the "frame rail" of this part of the vehicle, What are you looking for? A round, semi-gloss silver, cannister, which has a rubber hose coming into the back of it, and another rubber hose coming out of the front of it. Remove either the "compression clamp", by using your pliers, grabbing those pins sticking-up, at a 90 degree angle from the clamp itself; squeeze and slip this clamp 3-5" AWAY from the read of this cylinder. Plug the end of the rubber hose with a bolt, rag, of whatever, to keep it from dripping gasoline/diesel, the drop end of hose into your bucket.

Next, clean up, then unplug the end of the hose-end, which is in the bucket. Now, turn-over your vehicle's engine (as IF starting it" for about 5-7 revolutions, then turn the ignition OFF.

Go back to your pail and look inside it. Is there fuel in the bucket? About 2-3 cups worth is about the right amount. YOUR FUEL PUMP IS OKAY, Reverse the disassembly instructions above, to rejoin/clamp the fuel hose end, the the REAR of the cylinder you replaced it from.

IMPORTANT: IF it has been at least 25k miles, since you changed-out this cylinder (FUEL CYLINDER) with a new one, I strongly suggest that you simply remove the FRONT, gasoline hose, as described above for the rear hose, and replace with a FRAM or Ford, new fuel filter.

Reverse the other procedures for jacking your car up, removing the jack stands, then letting the jack stand all the way down. Remove jack stands and floor jack from underneath your vehicle, as well as the "fuel pail": pour fuel in pail BACK into your gas tank too!
