I've been told that it can only be done at a Saturn dealership...
Check the transmission fluid level.
15 Qts.
Dextron 3 automatic transmission fluid. now known as domestic automatic transmission fluid. Yes it is a manual but they used the same stuff. It just lubricates the needle berrings.
You will need about five quarts.
change both the fluid and filter every 50,000 miles
The exact same place you check the fluid level is where you add fluid. rear wheel drive (Sedan , Brogham)-- transmission tube and dipstick behind right rear cylinder head. front wheel drive (Eldorado) - side of left side cylinder head . Good luck
Check Your Tranny Fluid.
dexron III is recommended for a 2003 Outback automatic
Check the fluid level. If it is ok, then a transmission shop is the next thing. Ask around to find a good trustworthy shop. Talk to your friends about where to take your car for repairs.
The short answer is, you don't. Just service it at the appropriate interval and look for leaks. On the GM 4T40E and 4T45E transmissions, there is no transmission fluid dipstick. GM is continually moving toward the "lifetime fill" with their transmissions, although the actual service interval for these models is 100,000 miles with the original Dexron III (using Dexron VI fluid supposedly doubles the service interval). Anyway, there is a red fill cap on the top of the transmission and a small check-bolt on the side of the transmission. The way to check the transmission fluid level is to open the fill cap, raise the whole car (make sure it's level, not just the front of the car), remove the check bolt. If ATF does not drip from the check bolt, the it's low. Fill through the fill cap until it drips from the check bolt.
